Artist Statement:
A dreamscape to me compromises all the things floating around in the head that are conveyed through flashes of images, light, and dreams. My own dreamscape is a combination of the dreams I have while I sleep and the dreams I make for myself while my mind wanders. For my piece, I decided to use all pictures taken by myself, and to combine the dark with the light and beautiful. I tend to have morbid dreams with eerie tones and dark themes. I chose to incorporate this into my piece by starting with the background image of a morgue in Alcatraz. I also liked the textures and tools in this original image, and the colors are similar to the schemes of my usual dreams. I also used a darkened image of an old couch that I have ended up falling asleep on for most of my life. The couch is the focal point of this piece because it is where experienced dreams also meet constructed dreams. For this piece, I chose to use a lot of foliage because it reminds me of patterns and I like to see elements that repeat and have a rhythm to them. I chose to use the picture of my neck and face because I think it is a good representation of how I feel when I dream. All elements of this piece are subtle and blurred around the couch and bird because I want the piece itself to feel like a dream. The images include parts of places I have been, beautiful things I have interacted with, and scars I have received. I think the combinations of confusing, yet beautiful, but also eerie tones create balance in this piece and also dream-like qualities within it.
